READY TO PUT THE BRAKES ON PARK

All good things come to an end and we are up for the fight.

QUEENSCLIFF is confident it has the right mix to bring down Premier division ladder leader Eastern Park, according to Coutas skipper Raymond Butler.

“All good things come to an end and we are up for the fight,” Butler said.

Queenscliff has secured the points in two out of its three opening matches, but fell last week at the hands of Drysdale.

“Not the result we wanted, full credit to Drysdale, they handled the fast-paced surface far better,” Butler said.

Eastern Park, on the other hand, has come out swinging, but that has not deterred Butler’s enthusiasm ahead of his side’s big clash.

“Coming up against a team that has not lost a rink in three games will definitely be a challenge,” Butler said.

“We have shuffled our teams and made one change, which will see the experienced Barrie Close make his comeback to Premier division bowls. We are hoping Barrie’s inclusion can bring vital experience into a young team.”

Bell Post Hill coach Craig McCarron needs his side to bounce back from a disappointing effort last week when it meets Drysdale.

“We have made two changes this week; Maureen Hope and Alan Lewis return to the side, both come in playing second,” McCarron said.

The Panthers lost away to cross-town rival Lara, but returning home this week puts a must-win tag on the match for McCarron.

“We have set a goal to win 80 per cent of our home games; all home games are like mini finals for us” he said.

Ocean Grove held on in a thriller against Bareena last Saturday and will hit the road again this week in a reversed fixture against Lara. Glen Baudinette and Andrew Gower are set to miss the match, while new recruit Darren McDonald is also out.

Belmont and Bareena lock horns at Belmont, with the victor gaining their first lot of match points in what looms as a tight contest.

City of Geelong will be keen to produce a better effort this week when it hosts Highton. With one win on the board, City will be hoping its home-ground advantage is enough to overturn last year’s premier.
