MORE than 45,000 school leavers across Victoria will wake up to their VCE and ATAR results on Thursday after completing year 12 in and out of lockdown.

Kardinia International College captain Matilda Broad and her peers were among those celebrating the imminent arrival of their results on Wednesday.

Statewide, statistics show 39 students achieved the highest possible Australian Tertiary Admission Rank of 99.95. Of those students, 29 were male and 11 female.

The average ATAR score across Victoria was 69.26, with an average of 70.6 for females and 67.62 for males.

Almost 14,000 students received at least one study score of 40 or more out of 50.

VTAC interim director Tamara Barth congratulated all students on completing VCE across 2020 and 2021, and celebrated their resilience during a time of remote learning and lockdowns. “All students who were able to complete their secondary schooling in 2021 should be proud of what they have achieved, and confident of their ability to successfully navigate their next steps,” Ms Barth said.

Deakin University’s senior lecturer in pedagogy and curriculum Dr Lucinda McKnight reminded students that “year 12 final results do not decide the future”.

“Students have had enormous challenges in their senior years, including deaths of loved ones, relationship break-ups, family changes, health issues and most recently a myriad Covid-related stresses,” she said.

Dr McKnight, who works with students requiring alternative pathways, encourages students to consider their options and to seek help from professionals.
