SHOPPERS GEAR UP FOR BOXING DAY SALES

- GEORGIA HOLLOWAY

SHOPPERS are gearing up for one of the retail sector’s biggest days, the Boxing Day sales.

While some sales have already begun, many retailers are yet to reveal what discounts await on December 26.

Westfield stylist Emelia Morris said shoppers could expect greater discounts this year.

“From what I am seeing, this season some retailers have gone up a little more, so you can probably expect bigger discounts than previous years to match some of the Black Friday sales,” she said.

Westfield Geelong stores including Politix, Seed Heritage and Oscar Wylee are currently advertising up to 50 per cent off items as part of their end-of-year sales.

While also the face of her own company Emelia Morris Stylist, the fashion expert told the Addy it was crucial to be prepared when shopping the Boxing Day sales.

“Making a plan, I think, is really important because you can get overwhelmed and end up buying things you don’t need,” she said.

“Because some of the sales are already up, you can research before Boxing Day and create a list, so you are still getting a very good bargain but you are armed in advance.”

Ms Morris said the sales would also be a good time to check out some brands that were typically on the more expensive side, as limitedtime discounts helped make them more affordable. “From a stylist point of view, if you are buying clothes, make sure you are trying them on and making sure the fit and measurements are correct,” she said.

“It is not a good bargain if it doesn’t fit.”

Ms Morris said it was also a good idea to check out return policies at each store before purchasing, as some retailers might not accept a return on discounted items or may only offer a store credit.
