TORQUAY HOME SETS NEW BENCHMARK

- PETER FARAGO

GEELONG buyers have secured a luxury Lachlan Shepherd designed house on Torquay’s The Esplanade for close to $6 million.

The three-bedroom Whites Beach home at 189 The Esplanade was sold this week after spending about 12 months on the market.

McCartney, Torquay agent Tim Carson said the two-storey residence with a rooftop deck, swimming pool and eight-car basement garage had sold for an undisclosed price a little under its $5.9 million to $6 million quoted price range.

“It was actually someone from Geelong. We’ve been on the market for just over 12 months and it was just a matter of getting that right person through the house,” Mr Carson said.

“These people went through and absolutely loved it.

“It’s understandably so – it’s certainly the best house that I’ve seen in Torquay.” Mr Carson said Torquay Homes had built the

Lachlan Shepherd design.

“There was quite a bit of planning and infrastructure that went in to get it through,” he said.

“It was one of those homes that as soon as you went through it you went ‘oh my God, this is beautiful’.

“Downstairs is magnificent and when you get upstairs it’s a whole new level.”

Mr Carson said no expense had been spared in its design and construction, as it was intended to be the vendors’ forever home.

But the Covid pandemic had changed that.

“Now that they can’t travel overseas and it’s been limited to get up north – they’ve had a son that’s moved up north – they’ve decided it’s time to chase the warmer weather, which is the only reason that they’ve sold.”

It’s the second $5 million-plus sale on Torquay’s beachfront in the past year.

“A lot of people that may have traditionally looked at Portsea and Sorrento are now looking over this way, which is just a bit more accessible, as is the schooling,” Mr Carson said.

“A lot of people are moving down to be closer for that reason, and I think that’s why we’ve seen the bigger prices.”

The sleek design also features a lift, a library and a theatre room, with polished concrete floors, doubleglazed windows, electric blinds and a sound system, plus an ensuite for each bedroom.

A north-facing outdoor entertaining area has a built-in barbecue, while the sleek kitchen has imported marble benchtops, stainless-steel Wolf appliances, a Subzero wine fridge and integrated fridge, freezer, and dishwasher.
