Revved up for restart

Drysdale keen to get cracking in new year

-

HONESTY is the best policy and coming into its home game against premier Highton, Drysdale skipper John Monahan has kept it straight with his troops as he looks for improvement.

Drysdale sits ninth on the Premier Division table at the mid-season break with two wins but also finds itself only two wins away from fourth place.

“We are honest with ourselves and after a couple of poor performances we need to get our game back, and up and going,” Monahan said.

“You always want to win at home, we just need a good performance to start off 2022. We know if we do the work, the results will come our way.”

Eastern Park returns home to host Belmont with two of its players sidelined.

“We feel we have the depth within the club to cover the outs, all we can do is put our best foot forward, all clubs will be in a similar boat, which provides an opportunity to explore options come the back end of the season,” Eastern Park skipper Stewart Williams said.

Bareena has not had things go its way for the first six rounds and will be hoping for a form reversal when it heads to Lara as the club continues to search for its best mix.

While the result is the No.1 priority, a juicy encounter would see Ben Wilding take on his former teammate in Lara’s Brannon Shelton.

“We have changed our sides completely, we are simply trying to capture the right mix, which can hopefully kick start our season,” Wilding said.

“I’m sure everyone would love to see that match-up (with Shelton), honestly I don’t mind who I draw as long as we get the result.”

Queenscliff will host the competition’s top-of-the-table clash against Ocean Grove while City of Geelong goes into its battle with Bell Post Hill in good shape, with little impact from Covid.

“Ron Sutherland returns to the team, we feel good that our Premier side is finding a good balance, we are keen to get the result against Bell Post Hill,” City of Geelong’s Shaun Myers said.
