High times for Lowe as Grove grabs another scalp
OCEAN Grove has stamped itself as the undisputed team to beat in Premier Bowls this season with its second consecutive win in a top-ofthe-table clash.
Ocean Grove sunk Queenscliff with a 89-77 victory on Saturday, highlighted by the performance of Peter Lowe’s rink.
The rink won 31-16 as Ocean Grove continued its undefeated start to the season.
Coach Matt Flapper said the efforts of Lowe were pivotal.
“The game before Christmas, he was on a run of three or four losses in a row,” Flapper said. “He won his rink by double figures the game before Christmas (against Eastern Park) and he’s obviously come out and continued with that form.”
Ocean Grove sits a game clear at the top of the ladder and in its past two games has prevailed in firstversus-second matches to announce itself as flag favourite.
“I think the biggest thing for us is we’ve got the depth in our seconds side that are continually pressuring the top-side players and our seconds side are starting to go all right as well. There’s a lot of good players in that side who are playing well, which gives me obviously other options as well if there’s people in the top side that aren’t performing,” Flapper said.
“Everything’s going all right at the moment and couldn’t be happier from where we’re sitting.
“You probably identify Highton,
Eastern Park and Queenscliff as your potential top four.
“We obviously managed to get over Highton earlier in the season at home and Eastern Park and then Queenscliff. Obviously we know our best is probably good enough, it’s just being able to continually bring that and develop even further.”
In other results, Eastern Park defeated Belmont 85-64, City of Geelong edged Bell Post Hill 78-72, Lara thumped Bareena 108-56 and Highton downed Drysdale 77-64.
