Grant powers rehab project
Adroit funding aids art therapy
DRUG rehabilitation and life skills program the Power in You Project has received a $75,000 grant after pitching about the success of its program at a corporate event.
The grant, from insurance broker and adviser Adroit Insurance & Risk, will help the program’s founder Kane Nuttall and his staff operate recreation and art therapy sessions.
Mr Nuttall has run the Power in You Project for five years, during which time the program has helped rebuild the lives of more than 300 people.
“These funds will allow us to transform our front shed into a multipurpose recreation and art therapy space, as well as providing additional counselling rooms and a dedicated office space for our justice team,” said Mr Nuttall, who lost 12 years of his life to drug addiction.
“It will become an important place for our participants
to heal and grow, and accommodate our rapidly expanding team.”
Participants in the program progress at their own pace.
The success of the program had been its ability to create a sense of community around those battling addiction, Mr Nuttall said.
The program offers life assistance to people with disabilities, those who have been to jail or are on communitybased court orders, and those battling addiction.
Most Power in You Project workers have lived experience of addiction. “The Adroit team are extremely proud of the partnership that we hold with the Geelong Community Foundation and the positive impact that our team, clients and supporters have contributed to in the Geelong community,” Adroit Insurance & Risk managing principal John Leavey said.
“I am delighted to see the projects that we have supported come to fruition and knowing that we have helped make the lives of some of the more vulnerable people in our community better.”
Geelong Community Foundation chief executive Gail Rodgers said: “The ability for the foundation to provide local community organisations with a capital grant opportunity, through funds raised at the Adroit Golf Day, is quite unique, as is the partnership we have with Adroit that includes their staff in the grant review and decision-making process.”
