RARE CHANCE OF FAMILY REUNION

- OLLIE NASH

THE return of Luke Taylor from Timbertop this weekend has provided the perfect opportunity to play cricket with dad Jarrod, mum Noelle and sister Annie.

After discussions with Anglesea Cricket Club, the wish has been granted and in a rare occurrence, the Taylor family is set to hit the field together in the same team on Saturday.

The quartet will pull on the club colours in the BPCA oneday match against Barwon Heads at Harry Blyth Field.

“It’s great, we’re excited about it, not something that we expected to happen but just a bonus,” Jarrod said.

“My wife and I aren’t really cricketers if you like, we only sort of got involved once the kids started to get a bit older and want to play senior cricket. We thought well if they’re going to be playing, we might as well play rather than just sit around and watch them.”

Jarrod said Luke, who attends Geelong Grammar, has

only returned to Geelong sparingly this year.

With Noelle eager to play fourths cricket after playing in the club’s women’s side last season, the stage was set for a family reunion on field.

“They’re home at school holidays and then they have one weekend in the middle of the term where they come home,” Jarrod said.

“With Luke coming home, because he’s only home for two days we wanted to maximise seeing him.

“I had a chat to Bryan (Thomas) and said, ‘Look, would we be all able to play in the one team and play obviously in the fourths because it’s a one-dayer?’

“The club was really good … so that’s how it happened.”

Luke, 15, is set to join forces with younger sister Annie, 13, who has quickly climbed up the ranks in junior cricket.

“She just started down at Anglesea in under-11s with her brother’s team when she was pretty young,” Jarrod said. “Last year sort of through Bryan, he was like, ‘she should start to do some stuff with the girl’s cricket’.

“Then she got involved through Geelong Cricket Club with the junior development program, the puma squad. That led to her getting selected into the (Barwon) Rockets team in January. She did well in the carnival … then she got picked in the under-16 Vic Country sort of development squad.

“She played senior women’s last year with her mum and … some senior men’s cricket now, so she’s going well and enjoys it.”
