Need for more bowls

-

I AM writing to the Geelong Bowls Region and Geelong Advertiser about the minimal publicity regarding lawn bowls in our region.

The Geelong Bowls Region should appoint a publicity officer to look after this.

It is disgusting when you see all the other sports, such as football, cricket, golf, fishing, horse racing etc all mentioned prominently in the Geelong Advertiser, but after four rounds played, with 23 clubs participating in midweek and Saturday pennant, there has only been a small column on October 8 om the Geelong Advertiser regarding one game in the premier league.

Given that almost 3000 people play competitive pennant in the Geelong region, I think this is a disgrace.

When Matt Flapper was writing a bowls segment last year it was great, but he is a coach of a very large club and should not have to do it.

It is time the Geelong Bowls Region got off their collective backsides and promoted this wonderful game of bowls here in Geelong on all public forums, including the Geelong Advertiser.

It is no wonder many of our best players are leaving the Geelong Bowls Region to play in Melbourne.

This in turn weakens the competition, with a very real scenario that the smaller clubs may eventually become extinct.

I believe the Geelong Bowls

Region must become more professional and more proactive in their advertising of our great game of bowls. They must appoint people on the board who will go that extra mile because at the present the GBR board is stagnant in their thinking and doing.
