Star has risen for Oz actor

-

A decade ago she was touted as a star on the rise and that has been the case for Australian success story Marlo Kelly.

The 27-year-old is the latest in a long line of successful Australian acting exports to make their mark on US film industry. Kelly, who grew up in Sydney and is now based in New York, got her start in the industry playing Skye Peters on soap Home And Away.

After leaving Summer Bay at the end of 2015, Marlo landed lead roles in cheerleading show Dare Me and horror series Patricia Moore, which led to her being awarded the CGA Rising Star Award in 2021.

Proving her staying power in the US, she has since gone costarred opposite Kate McKinnon in Peacock’s Joe vs. Carole, based on the hugely popular Tiger King characters.

However it is her role in the adaptation of wildly popular Chinese sci-fi novel 3 Body Problem that has put her name on the map in Hollywood.

The 27-year-old no longer flies under the radar and is often recognise in the street thanks to her lead role of Tatiana Haas in the global hit.

“Work wise it has definitely really picked up and the phone is ringing a lot more, which has been really wonderful,” Kelly said this week. “I have definitely been noticed a lot more in the street.”

Kelly will this week touch down in Sydney ahead of Australian Fashion Week, where she is set to attend a number of shows including Beare Park, Carla Zampatti and opening show, Albus Lumen.

“I am really excited. I love fashion, it is art,” she said.
