Scare for Devils star
It comes just a few months after Darren was hospitalised with what was first thought to be lymphoma.
On Saturday night, Darren said his son was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“It was hard to see where I was, but he copped one between the shoulder blades,” Darren said on Saturday.
“He had feeling in his feet and his toes (after the game), his hand was a little bit numb but that might have been from the way he was laying in the emergency room.
“He was talking, he was well aware ... the last few minutes ... he wanted to know where the ball was and what the score was.
“They were just concerned about any spinal damage.” Darren said he had been overwhelmed by support.
Belmont Lions extended their winning streak to six after a 16.8 (104) to 10.10 (70) win over Winchelsea. The Lions were clinical on the road, extending their lead at every break, with Mikali Harrison’s three goals supported by eight other goalkickers, including emerging ruck Noah Houtsma, who continued his strong year.
Werribee Centrals produced a statement win in a top four battle against Bannockburn, running out 18.13 (121) to 9.7 (61) victors.
The Centurions took a 28point lead into the second term though the Tigers worked hard to slash the margin to 14 by the main break.
But it was all Werribee after the break, their 10-goal to three second half performance blowing out the margin.
Bell Post Hill escaped with their second win of the year, after a final quarter comeback by Anakie fell agonisingly short, 10.8 (68) to 9.13 (67). The Roos, who proved woefully ineffectively in the first three quarters (2.13), found their eye in the fourth, kicking 7.0 to Bell Post Hill’s 3.1 before time run out.
