Global Traveler

Ready, Set, Go!

- Tracey Cullen art director

The Global City Guidebook is one of my favorite issues every year. I love the quick-read, one-page articles with useful information about many interesting destinations. This is one of those issues you can pick up and put down … and pick up again, just to page through the guides and dream about your next trip.

I have the fun job of gathering photos for these guides, and it is often difficult to choose just one to represent a city. So many of these cities have drastically different areas to explore. Take Dubai: It’s a bustling city full of glitzy skyscrapers, yet travel just beyond the city limits and you’re in the desert wilderness of Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, enjoying activities like camel riding, archery and falconry.

Or consider Christchurch, the largest city on New Zealand’s South Island. It boasts stunning natural landscapes along with modern architecture and historical attractions.

For those visiting Dallas for the annual Global Business Travel Association Convention, while you’re here, take a leisurely stroll through Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, one of the top-ranked gardens in the world. And if you’re lucky enough to stay through the weekend, take in a show at Stockyards Championship Rodeo for exciting events including bull riding, barrel racing and bronco riding. Read more about Dallas on page 61.

People who know me know I love a good beach vacation, so I enjoy reading about tropical destinations like Aruba, page 50; St. Augustine, page 34; and Punta Cana, page 44. But then there are the cities steeped in history such as Málaga, page 48; Jaipur, page 29; and Sintra, page 18. After perusing the photos, I would love to see the bold colors of Pena Palace in person.

Let the 2023 Global City Guidebook be your go-to guide for your next adventure.

Happy travels!
