NOT DONE YET
Scott Hend won’t be making up the numbers at the Fiji International as he seeks to add to his haul of worldwide titles.
It has often been written that a nomadic childhood caused by his father’s work in the air force provided the ideal window, and preparation, for Scott Hend into a life traversing the globe playing golf for a living.
The fact that the Queenslander, who turns 45 later this month, has played more (66 events) in the current two-year world ranking period than any other player in the top-200 adds weight to the theory.
Hend’s success, which includes nine Asian Tour wins (two co-sanctioned with Europe), is the result of far more than just a willingness to tee it up in remote parts of the globe and spend time away from his wife Leanne and twins Aston and McLaren. In fact, the former PGA Tour player has a very simple explanation for his longevity.
“I just love golf mate, I love playing golf,” Hend told Golf Australia magazine. “I mean sooner or later I’m going to get to a time in my life where I won’t be able to do it professionally, so I just enjoy what I do, and doing it as much as I can.
“Some people have got passions, and golf is a passion of mine. I live to play golf, that’s pretty much all there is to it. I don’t play golf to live, I live to play golf.”
Beyond his love of the game, which he admits he plays during o weeks and when spending every second Christmas in Australia with family and friends, Hend’s maturation has seen him become a more level-headed player than in his early days on Tour.
