AUSSIES AT THE PGA*

-

JASON DAY

PGA RECORD: Eight starts. Best finish Won (2015). The 2015 champion hasn’t missed the top-15 at this tournament since 2013 and has finished inside the top-10 on five of eight occasions.

Day, 30, finished 2nd the last time the championship was played at a course redesigned by Rees Jones (2016 at Baltusrol Golf Club’s Lower Course). Expect the Queenslander to lead the Aussie charge.

MARC LEISHMAN

PGA RECORD: Seven starts. Best finish T12 (2013). Warrnambool’s favourite son fired the equal-best round of the final day last year to charge into a share of 13th.

The 34-year-old has been relatively consistent at this event over the years but he has never managed to crack the top-10. That could easily change this year if he can improve his driving accuracy – which has dropped significantly since he finished runner-up at the Byron Nelson in May.

ADAM SCOTT PGA RECORD: Seventeen starts. Best finish 3rd (2006).

The former World No.1 has continued his frustrating form slump throughout season 2017/18. There was a time not so long ago that Scott was our leading hope heading into the majors. But now, by way of world rankings, there are three other Aussies ahead of him. His tee-to-green work is still elite – and he is ranked well inside the top-10 on Tour for greens in regulation – he just needs to find something on and around the greens to be a chance.

CAMERON SMITH

PGA RECORD: Two starts. Best finish T25 (2015). The reigning Australian PGA champion doesn’t have much experience at this championship and his recent run of results are seriously concerning. Smith had missed five straight cuts at the time of writing and hadn’t scored better than 72 for nine rounds. The Queenslander is an immense talent, however, and when his game is on, he is one of the best wedge players on Tour – something that would serve him well at Bellerive. *The final field had not been confirmed at the time of going to print.
