If it’s the best in local wining and dining you’re after on your next winter escape, look no further than the Gibbston region of Central Otago.

Gibbston, also known as the ‘ Valley of the Vines’, is one of the most scenic wine growing areas in the world – let alone New Zealand. The awardwinning wines produced from these Central Otago vineyards are second to none too – as you’ll find out on your next trip to the area for a romantic getaway, family holiday or team building trip with colleagues.

Kinross Cottages located in the heart of Gibbston make for ideal accomodation if you love wine and wish to acquaint yourself with the local tipples. Nestled amongst a stunning vineyard, visiting Kinross during the cooler months comes with a magic atmosphere – enjoy a rich glass of pinot noir while taking in the views of the snow-capped Pisa ranges, or jump on a Kinross bicycle and head out into the crisp, clean air to adventure down the Gibbston Wine Loop cycle trail. This is vineyard hopping at its best.

In just two years since being established, Kinross Cottages have accumulated an impressive local wine and craft beer list to try, which can be matched with hearty, lodge-style meals prepared by the Kinross culinary experts. Their wine cellar can be booked for private tastings for small groups and now consists of five local wine partners. Coal Pit is the most recent handcrafted wine partner to join company with Valli, Wild Irishman, Hawkshead and Domaine Thompson wines in the Kinross wine cellar. A family-owned business, Coal Pit lovingly produce their wine from their sustainably-accredited vineyard first planted in 1994. The name ‘Coal Pit’ comes from the historical area in the nearby Pisa mountain ranges, which provided early pioneers with musterers and gold miners with coal. Delight your taste buds while learning about the local history.

Winter is a wonderful time to enjoy superb wines in Gibbston, so get planning your trip now.
