In December of last year world leaders from 195 governments signed the Paris Climate Agreement and committed to replacing fossil fuels almost entirely by clean energy in the second half of this century. As a result, solar power will undoubtedly become a key player in the new energy mix around the world.

With high global temperatures breaking records for the past 11 consecutive months, it’s even more urgent that we all take action to reduce fossil fuel emissions – but unfortunately, many are still of an uninformed opinion that it is easier said than done. Solar power company solarcity is making it simple and affordable for New Zealanders to make the switch with its revolutionary solarZero energy service.

With solarZero, now you can go solar without even having to pay for the equipment. Instead, homeowners buy clean, affordable solar energy, generated on their roof by solar panels that solarcity own and manage. As a homeowner, you simply pay a low, fixed monthly fee for energy services providing inflation-free solar power and improved energy efficiency. In turn, you can save yourself thousands of dollars on power bills over the long term.

The cost of grid power has risen 150 per cent in the last two decades. solarZero helps homeowners to beat those rising prices by locking in a price for solar power that won't increase for the next 20 years. As well as putting you back in control of your energy bills, switching to solarZero helps protect the environment. If five per cent of households in New Zealand installed solar to meet daytime energy needs, our carbon emissions would decrease by 56,400 cubic tonnes.

It is all part of the vision of solarcity - New Zealand’s leading solar provider - to support New Zealand moving to 100 per cent renewable energy. In the past 35 years solarcity has installed solar on more New Zealand homes and businesses than any other company. Says CEO of solarcity, Andrew Booth, “If enough of us switch to solar and batteries, we could say goodbye to coalgenerated power in New Zealand.”

On top of the solarZero service, solarcity has also added affordable battery storage to their innovative energy service, called solarZero+, making it even easier to power your home with solar. This means customers can store excess solar power generated during the day to use at night. Battery storage also offers backup emergency power for a few critical devices when the grid goes down. Booth says this doubles the number of New Zealanders who can benefit from going solar. It truly is set-and-forget, integrating solar panels, battery storage, and energy monitoring.

The sun is out and here to stay for a while, so now is the perfect time to get solar installed and make the most of the long daylight hours this summer, and for many years to come.
