I loved, loved, loved your craft feature on macramé by Sarah Heeringa (“Tied Up in Knots,” Jan/Feb 2017) and was so inspired I went straight to my Two Dollar shop, bought a ball of string and made this! This was my second attempt – my first looked like a bird’s nest. I discovered that the trick is to make a loop out of another piece of string and use this to hook and hang your strands from something once you’ve folded them (I used a clothes horse). That way you can pull your lengths of string taut and make sure the knots are in line with one another. Also, when you fold your 12 strands, you end up with 12 pairs of lengths not six, as stated in the instructions. My mum, who passed away when I was a teen, used to do a lot of macramé and it’s so nice to know that I’m now able to do something that she once enjoyed so much. Thank you Good for the inspiration! Leigh Greerson Thanks for the great quality publication, your mag is always full of inspiration and this month is no exception. I just wanted to share the macramé hanger and terrarium I made this week following Sarah Heeringa’s article. I can tell it’s the beginning of a new craft obsession for me! Lisa Gardner I enjoyed “Show of Solidarity” in the Jan/Feb
Good. I think L’Occitane’s approach to helping fight blindness in West Africa and also supporting women in work and leadership is commendable. I’ll look out for their products though we don’t have a L’Occitane store where I live. Thank you also for the Good Thought: “One way to get the most out of life is to look upon it as an adventure” has gone up on my bedroom door. It’s a brilliant idea for 2017! Audrey Shepherd I always seem to feel more relaxed and positive after reading Good! The latest issue is no exception. Whether it’s about loo flushing (plumbing problems terrify me, so it’s good to get as much information as I can to avoid blockages!); the importance of ‘play’ (except for young neighbourhood kids, I know very few who do play, but I’ll do my best to pass it on!); the goodness of the sun (and yes, SPF); and articles on those lovely people who put their time and effort into providing, improving and educating us on how to be more healthy. Jill Autridge What a great start to the New Year with your bright, summery recipes to “Nourish Your Body and Soul “(Jan/Feb). My current favourite is the Sweet Borage, Blueberry and Ginger Ice Cream. I haven’t got the borage component, but your description of the nutritional value of this plant as well as the picture showing its pretty star-shaped flowers has spurred me to add it to my herb garden. Meanwhile, I’m using lavender flowers, but even without the borage, I’m loving this delicious recipe. No need for an ice cream churner and the bananas help to keep the mix creamy. Diane Davidson
