Mind. Body. Beautiful.

Five Kiwi yogis share their philosophies when it comes to beauty and confidence.

“Glow From Within”

Kate Burford teaches Bikram Method yoga at her small studio in Christchurch. After discovering the healing effects of this powerful mind-body practice in Melbourne in 2005, Burford has been dedicated to this ‘moving meditation’.

“It sounds like a cliché but I believe ‘beauty’ begins in the inside by learning to value and look after ourselves. There’s so much more awareness in the world today, acknowledging that everything we eat and put on our skin becomes us on a cellular level. When it comes to beauty, making conscious choices helps you glow from within. I tend to go more natural and minimal when it comes to cosmetics – less is more. I like my skin to feel fresh and moist. I do have a handful of must-have products though: a little Chanel Éclat Lumière, mascara and a cheek stain, which works for both cheeks and lips.

As I’m getting older my focus is on moisture, replenishment, protection and regeneration. I always apply serum before my moisturisers because I like my face to feel dewy. I also just invested in a Slip Silk pillowcase, which is amazing for retaining moisture while you sleep.

Mindful practices such as yoga can help you build a good relationship with mind and body; by becoming more in tune with yourself you feel better. There’s nothing like a good sweat session to help your skin glow.”
