Balancing blends for body and soul
Aromatherapy helped Kim Morrison run, and win, the toughest race of her life. Now she has brought her range of essential oils and skincare, Twenty8, back home to NZ.
It’s safe to say that Twenty8 is a winning combination, particularly its ‘Detox & Strengthen’ blend. Privately, its creator, Kim Morrison, 50, calls it her “world-record blend” because the combination of juniper, rosemary, Spanish cypress, lemongrass, pink grapefruit, black pepper and rose, helped give her the strength and endurance for her first-ever world record ultramarathon finish.
Today, it is part of Twenty8’s range of 17 signature Synergy blends which combine only the finest 6-star certified pure organic essential oils to awaken your senses and put you back in touch with nature.
Thirty-five years ago, when she was living in Melbourne and on the path to becoming a personal trainer, she also did her first course in aromatherapy – the gymnasium was next to a natural therapies college and the beautiful aroma drew her in. It was during this time she was encouraged to enter an ultramarathon by Cliff Young who was to become a mentor. She became the youngest female to run 100miles in less than 24 hours.
Throughout the race, her support crew would rub the aromatherapy oil blend into her muscles. She also put the blend on her chest and spritzed it on a tissue, which she’d stuff down her running top. Morrison believes the blend helped her push through the challenge by uplifting her spirits and giving her the strength to carry on.
Twenty8’s range is devised for busy women, and men. It’s about creating micro moments of mindfulness – “three seconds to do a spritz is all it takes to bring about mindfulness”, says Morrison.

The skincare range of 13 products is designed to be part of a daily ritual to boost healing and rejuvenation. “When you put our moisturiser on, the oils make you feel good but they also work on the skin.
“My love of oils all comes back to my respect for the planet, my holistic belief that a footprint can be changed and governed. In the beginning, I wanted to change the world. Now my goal is to have people realise the power of something like lavender over Panadol.”
