Three face mask recipes for fabulous skin

You only need to go as far as the kitchen for the ingredients for these face masks that are almost good enough to eat.

Green glower anti-ageing mask

I love doing this mask last thing at night, but you can do it any time of the day. The honey has antibacterial properties and the spirulina is not only full of anti-ageing antioxidants but it also contains about 57 per cent protein, so the face will really thrive after having this little treatment. I apply it once or twice a week all over my face, neck and decolletage (and shoulders if they’ve been exposed to the sun, as they love the extra attention, too).

1 tsp fine salt

1 tbsp spirulina powder 1 tbsp psyllium husk 2 tbsp raw honey

Pop the salt, spirulina and psyllium husk into a small bowl and mix to combine, then add the honey. It will feel claggy and hard to combine, but keep mixing, adding 2-4 tablespoons of water, until you get a nice smooth paste. Apply to a clean face and leave on for about 10 minutes. Wash off, pat your face dry and enjoy the glow.

Deep-cleansing clay mask

This mask deeply cleanses and smooths the face and neck. The naturally occurring lactic acid in the yoghurt helps to tighten and tone the skin, while the honey has powerful antioxidant and antibacterial properties.

1/4 cup (60g) bentonite clay 1/4 cup (60g) plain yoghurt 2 tbsp raw honey pinch of dulse flakes

1 tbsp coconut oil, melted

Place all of the ingredients into a bowl, mix thoroughly, then apply evenly around the face and neck, avoiding the eye areas – I pop a hand towel around my shoulders, so it doesn’t get too messy! I also put this on the backs of my hands to help prevent ageing. Leave it on for 5 minutes before rinsing off. This will make enough for five masks.

Cinnamon spice exfoliating mask

I love exfoliation masks and try to do them about once per week. I will say this: it can get a tad messy because there are ‘bits’ in there, but just apply it over the basin or in the shower.

2 tbsp macadamia oil

2 tbsp raw sugar

1 tbsp finely crushed cacao nibs pinch of ground cinnamon pinch of ground nutmeg pinch of ground allspice

Mix all of your goodies in a bowl, then apply to a clean face in circular motions with the pads of your fingertips for a couple of minutes (about the length of your favourite song). Wash off and pat your face dry. You’ll feel really fresh after this little number. It can leave the skin feeling a little oily, so you may need a double wash.
