The $20 chubby club sandwich at boutique Barossa inn The Louise is a 12-centimetre stack of all the necessaries and then some. The brioche bun may unsettle aficionados but it works brilliantly with the charred chicken breast and rashers of Linke’s Barossa bacon.
Like the brioche, the mayo is made in-house – sweetened with crème fraîche and spiced with Newman’s horseradish, a South Australian hero. Be sure to ask for fried onion rings on the side – they’re off-menu but a staff favourite, so the kitchen is bound to have some in reserve. thelouise.com.au
