Bowl food – it’s still a thing. And if Instagram is anything to go by, we’re all chowing down on one kind of bowl or another, be it for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

We especially love a breakfast bowl to kick-start the day, whether it’s savoury and geared towards brunch, or sweet, like this grain-rich bircher. Topped with seasonal fruits and a maple caramel, it’s the ultimate do-ahead weekday breakfast, and it’s portable to boot. If you’re in a rush and need breakfast on the run, spoon it into a screw-top jar, add your toppings and you’re good to go.

For a more leisurely weekend option, consider the umami-packed quinoa bowl, chock-full of crunchy vegetables and topped with an egg – we’ve opted for soft-boiled, but poached eggs work just as well, too. A ginger-spiked dressing takes it all to another level.
