TOUGH JUDGES

Chefs and restaurateurs might win over critics and diners – but can they impress their kids?

-

ADAM WOLFERS, GERARD’S BISTRO What’s your favourite thing to eat at your dad’s restaurant?

Harlow (3): The pita bread with Dad’s hummus is my favourite. I eat lots of it.

Is there anything that could be better?

Harlow: The ice-cream. Dad doesn’t have chocolate ice-cream on the menu. Chocolate is my favourite flavour.

DAN HUNTER, BRAE

Ivy Hunter reviews Brae, the regional Victorian restaurant run by her parents, chef Dan Hunter and operations manager Julianne Bagnato. They contend that the chef did not “shrink” Ivy’s favourite dessert.

DUNCAN WELGEMOED, AFRICOLA

What’s your favourite thing to eat at your dad’s restaurant?

Maxwell (9): Peanut atchar meatballs, the peanut-butter coating is just the right flavour. Not too sweet or salty.

Is there anything that could be better?

Alexander (6): There’s too much peppery spice on the lettuce in the fattoush salad.

What do you wish was on your dad’s restaurant menu?

Alexander: Hamburgers and pizza would go well with all the other dishes at Africola.

BRENT SAVAGE, BENTLEY, CIRRUS & YELLOW What’s your favourite thing to eat at your dad’s restaurant?

Orielle (8): The Bentley chocolate bar because it has chocolate and honeycomb together. Amika (6): The liquorice bread at Yellow, because it’s the best!

Is there anything that could be better?

Amika: The dessert menu is missing vanilla and chocolate ice-cream with sprinkles on top.

AMY HAMILTON, LIBERTÉ What is your favourite thing to eat at your mum’s restaurant?

Sophie (12): The chips and the gravy, cause it’s iconic. It’s never changed – that’s why it’s so amazing.

Ollie (8): Chicken feet, because they have a nice spice and they’re cooked to perfection.

What do you wish was on your mum’s restaurant menu?

Ollie: Nuggets.

How does your mum’s restaurant compare to your favourite place to eat?

Sophie: My favourite place to eat is probably Maccas. I like Maccas better. But Liberté is pretty good.
