PERFECTLY PROVENCE

A Provence Rosé for every occasion

-

Our love of pale and dry rosé shows no sign of slowing down and the original home of rosé, Provence in the South of France, is leading the way with exceptional winemaking, sustainable viticulture and wines of real character. Celebrated for its many shades of pink, wonderfully perfumed aromas, unequalled versatility and the uniqueness and elegance of its bottles, Provence rosé is taking over the world, Australia included. But what makes it so good? Know your Provence Rosé

Rosé from Provence is known for being elegant, pale, dry, aromatically complex, and always balancing fruit characters with vibrant acidity. The wines must be blends of at least two grape varieties, specifically selected for their suitability with the terroir, such as Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, each grape bringing its own distinct characteristics to the final blend. Provence wines only originate from one of three AOP’s (Appellation d’Origine Protégée): Côtes de Provence, Coteaux d’Aix-enProvence, and Coteaux Varois en Provence. Make sure your wine of choice has one of these three AOPs written on the bottle, to ensure you are indeed getting yourself a true Vin de Provence rosé.

The oldest, but still so modern

Provence is the oldest registered wine region in France – dating back to 2600 years when the Greeks settled in Provence, building the city of Massilia (known as Marseille today) and bringing vines and by all accounts, the very first type of rosé. The region’s history and dedication to rosé (91% of the region’s wine production is rosé) has turned its winemakers into pioneers in the creation and knowledge of rosé wine.

Always ahead of the curve

The region is at the forefront of sustainable winemaking, with organic and HEV (high environmental value) certifications dramatically on the rise, with a goal to be 100% organic or HVE by 2030 (currently 44%). A unique know-how, technical expertise from vine to wine, and eco-responsible viticulture is key to making Provence a true leader in the rosé wine category.

It’s a question of lifestyle

There are many reasons that Provence rosé is the go-to pink wine. It’s super versatile and can be paired with many cuisines, from fresh Mediterranean dishes to richer grilled meats and charcuterie, it even works with Asian and chilli-infused dishes. With so many styles of Provence rosé there is one for every occasion. Its elegant and relaxed positioning evokes the region’s lifestyle: long, lazy lunches, sun-kissed skin, and oversized sunglasses. But most of all, it is the expression of a lifestyle peculiar to the south of France, where people like to gather, share a good time, at their own pace… So, in homage to the perfect wine for the perfect get-together, here are 12 of the 2021 best pink wines from our expert Sommeliers for your summer celebrations.
