Guitar Techniques - - Play: Rock -

The three-note repeating phrase is a Clapton specialit y, and he of ten launches into this t ype of idea during a solo. The trick here is to repeat a group of three notes over and over using a semiquaver subdivision (16th notes). There are four semiquavers per beat, so a three -note phrase is displaced and resolves ever y three beats. You can repeat these t ype of ideas as long as you dare – in Cream, Eric could go on for ages!
