Now, given the chords and Soprano part, we can add the Alto. We can introduce some simple rhythmic independen­ce from the Soprano part, and also ensure there is no unwanted parallel motion. Notice how the non-diatonic G in bar 2 (which is flatter than the diatonic G#) resolves down a semitone to F#.
