Examp le 7 Alan Murphy

Whammy-bar wizard and 1980s guitar session maestro Alan Murphy used various modified Squier Stratocasters to great effect. His locking vibrato unit and stacked single- coil-sized humbucking pickup additions were important tweaks to the stock design. This example uses the bar to embellish a simple melody. Dial up a compressed, mids- orientated overdrive for this one – Alan used a Fender Super Champ for its own natural overdrive.
