While we’re think­ing in C#/ it’s im­por­tant to note that Carl­ton is in­cred­i­bly com­fort­able with all keys, so make sure you trans­pose ideas through each and ev­ery pos­si­ble key. This ex­am­ple switches be­tween the bluesy mi­nor Pen­ta­tonic scale (R- 4-5- and its as­so­ci­ated Blues scale by adding the mor­ph­ing into the Half-Whole scale from the same root (R- #2-3-#4-5-6- an eight-note sym­met­ri­cal scale con­structed from a se­quence of half and whole steps (one fret, two frets, one fret etc).
