ExamplE2 three-note II V I ConneCtIons

-

XXXXXXXXHere we see a similar study that explores the 3rd/7th and 7th/3rd voice leading in what is probably the most common sequence in jazz, the II-V-I. Notice how we aim to keep the lowest note on the sixth string, producing what we might think of as inversions for many of these voicings, but remember that the bass player will frequently cancel these bass note choices out by selecting the fundamental (root note) for each chord on beats 1 and 3 of each bar. As with all examples, make sure your muting is up to scratch so that we only hear the notes selected and absolutely no open strings.
