Here we see the pre­vi­ous ex­am­ple re­duced to just a soli­tary tenor voice played ex­clu­sively on the fourth string. You should con­tinue to fin­ger the sixth string and even the third if you like, al­though en­sure th­ese notes are muted and only one note rings out clearly. For once, this is a tech­nique that is far eas­ier to achieve with both high ac­tion and heavy strings – per­haps hence Fred­die’s pref­er­ence for both.
