Here’s the same sequence, but beginning with a pair of ideas delivered from chord shapes. In bars 3 and 4 we turn this into a single-note string-crossing idea. Note the anticipati­on in bar 6, where Louis makes the move towards F7 early by choosing e ( 7 of F7) over e natural (3rd of C7). This makes the listener think the improviser is leading the rhythm section into each new event rather than resolving late, which could sound like they were reacting late or had missed the change.
