ExamplE7 swinging minor lines
For all his sophistication and intelligence, Louis also knew how to make the Blues scale swing. This example is in the key of d minor and begins with d Blues (d-F-G-ab-a-C),
before progressing to shifting to d Melodic Minor in bars 5 and 6 (d-e-F-G-a-B-C#). The descending chromatic figure from B to G# in bars 7 and 8 relates to the underlying e7 and corresponds with its 5th and major 3rd respectively.
