Richie rose to prominence on Mike Varney’s 80s Shrapnel label. Although now more bluesy and restrained, Richie’s style was technical and fusion-like in the first half of his career in which he released several albums, solo and with Greg Howe. On albums like Fever Dream, Electric Joy and Tilt he can be heard using stacked triads as a means of constructing large and fluidly-played arpeggio shapes.
