GARY HOEY

-

DUST & BONES Provogue ✪✪✪✪ ✪

Back in 2013, Massachusetts guitarist Hoey released his first album, Deja Blues, which proved he had the chops to do justice to the genre after his previous rock and surf leanings. Back again to dig even deeper, Dust & Bones is brimming with great rock-blues guitar. Gary certainly makes various nods to the greats – the Zeppelin groove on opening track, Boxcar Blues, the Brian Setzer swinging Who’s Your Daddy (nice licks!) and the Hendrix wah meets ZZ Top stomper Born To Love You (Gary’s voice almost sounds like Billy Gibbons here!) all show great taste and variety. There’s a fantastic duet with rocker Lita Ford on Coming Home, while the huge production on the Trower-cum-Bonamassa styled slow rocker, This Time Tomorrow, is mighty impressive.
