Jam Tracks tips
Use these tips to navigate our bonus backing tracks
➊ Blues Jam (Ebm)
We start with this easy-to-approach Eb Eb blues in minor. Use Minor Eb-Gb-Ab-Bb-Db) Eb Pentatonic ( and Eb- Gb-Ab-Bb-Cb-Db) Minor scale ( F-
Eb and then add Harmonic Minor Eb- Gb-Ab-Bb-Cb-
( F- D) for the
Bb7) dominant ( chords. Or think E Minor if you’ve tuned a semitone (half-step) down, Hendrix style.
➋ Riffy Rock Jam (A)
Here’s a fun rockout in A. You can use A Minor Pentatonic (A-C-DE-G) and also A Dorian mode (A-B-C-D-E-F#-G) and since both the minor and the major 3rd (C and C#) are featured you can definitely mix some bluesy A Mixolydian flavour (A-B-C#-D-E-F#-G) into the melodic stew.
➌ II-V-I Jazz Jam (A)
Jazz practice in the guitar-friendly key of A. In theory, the A Major scale (A-B-C#-D-E-F#-G#) works throughout, but for a next ‘step up’ I suggest you try outlining the chord tones or arpeggios: Bm7 arpeggio = B-D-F#-A; E7 arpeggio = E-G#B-D; Amaj7 arpeggio = A-C#-E-G#.
➍ G Blues Boogie
We finish with a fun and simple blues shuffle. Here you can use G Minor
Bb- Pentatonic (G- C-D-F) for a classic blues vibe. You could also approach the IV chord (C) with C Minor
Eb- Bb) Pentatonic (C- F-G- and the V chord (D) with D Minor Pentatonic (D-F-G-A-C). Happy jamming!
