JAM TRACKS tips
Use these tips to navigate our bonus backing tracks
➊ Slow Blues Jam (Dm)
We start with a fun and easy slow blues in D Minor. You can get off to a good start here with D Minor Pentatonic (D-F-G-A-C), while also aiming for the arpeggios Dm
Bb- Bbmaj7 (D-F-A), Gm (G- D),
Bb-
( D-F-A) and A7 (A-C#-E-G).
➋ Jazz Jam (G)
This swinging jazz jam is made specifically for practising going between a Imaj7 chord (Gmaj7) and a bVII7 chord (F7), which is not just a lovely colourful sound, but also a compositional move seen in many jazz standards. Use G Major scale (G-A-B-C-D-E-F#) and F7 Lydian
Eb). Dominant (F-G-A-B-C-D
➌ Melodic Minor Groove (Am)
Here’s a fun static loop jam based solely on the A Melodic Minor scale (A-B-C-D-E-F#-G#). It’s quite a curious sound, but it is a cool vibe to be able to whip out on any Minor chord when the time is right - and of course the Melodic Minor modes are extremely useful in general.
➍ Mixolydian Jam (C)
We finish with this C Mixolydian vamp. It’s a bluesy kind of vibe, so aside from using the perfectly appropriate C Mixolydian mode
Bb) (C-D-E-F-G-A- you can definitely also get away with some good old C Minor Pentatonic
Eb- Bb).
(C- F-G- And maybe add in
b5 Gb) the ( to both scales for even more bluesiness. Happy jamming! Jam tracks by Jacob Quistgaard.
