This is a basic flamenco style rasgueado strum using just the first finger. The thumb rests on the sixth string throughout the exercise - this helps to keep the hand still - and the first finger flicks out and back to strum the remaining five strings. The pick symbols below the tab indicate the direction of the first finger strum - a ‘down’ pick stroke means strum towards the treble strings and an ‘up’ pick stroke means strum towards the bass strings.
