These free stroke arpeggio exercises use combinations of thumb plus two fingers and have specific indicated ‘planting’ routines. Planting the fingers on the strings before they play helps develop security, tone control and prevents the hand from ‘bouncing’. Keep the thumb away from the fingers and do not allow it to pluck inside the hand. Of course, if arpeggios need to sustain in a piece, planting becomes unnecessary.
