A large part of getting this technique in place is dependent on the interplay between pick and fingers. You may want to try using a larger or smaller pick than you usually do and explore the use of fingers with nails as opposed to just the flesh. Guitar-wise you can do this on anything within the electric and acoustic worlds though of course when most people think of hybrid picking they probably picture the good old Telecaster.
