The Beatles celebrate Sgt Pepper’s 50th with reissues
The Beatles will celebrate the golden anniversary of their game-changing album Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in style with a number or different reissue packages on 26 May. All the packages – including the one-disc edition – will feature a new stereo mix of the album with an expanded deluxe edition being offered digitally, as a two-CD set or two-LP vinyl. This second disc will include previously unreleased takes of all 13 album tracks with additional stereo mixes on the deluxe digital and CD versions. These will also have previously unreleased alternate studio takes of the non-album double A-side single songs Penny Lane with two of Lennon & McCartney masterpiece Strawberry Fields Forever.
For the more fanatical completists among us, there’s the six-disc super deluxe boxset (pictured above). This features all of the above plus a whopping 33 additional recordings from the Sgt Pepper’s session tapes. The other discs will consist of 5.1 Surround audio and High Resolution Audio mixes of Sgt Pepper’s on DVD and Blu-ray. Also included are promo films for some of the album’s songs and a restored version of the 1992 documentary, The Making Of Sgt Pepper. Rounding out the super deluxe set is a 144-page hardcover book (a 50-page abridged version will come with the deluxe versions) with input from Paul McCartney and Giles Martin, who has remixed the reissue with Abbey Road engineer Sam Okell.
