HoW to Set pickup HeigHt (part i)

-

“Use your ears!” says Tim Mills of Bare Knuckle Pickups. “It’s nigh-on impossible to give a definitive height for setting up pickups because so much depends on the player, string gauge and action. The way I approach it is to start with the bridge pickup. Adjust it to within a few mm of the underside of the string and slowly lower it away while playing and listening for a sweet spot – play notes higher up the neck as well as open strings. Once you’ve decided where the pickup reproduces the best tone for you, move on to any other pickups and repeat the process while also referring back to the bridge position, checking for output balance between them.”
