TRY A COMPRESSOR AFTER OVERDRIVE
The ‘standard’ position for a compressor is before your drive pedals. This is great for country and funk, but if you want a more subtle effect to increase sustain on the tail of notes, but not the overt compression on the front, try the comp after the drive. The other way to achieve this is to use a compressor with a dry mix control (Xotic SP, Origin Cali76) and use a good amount of your dry sound with it placed before the drive. It gives a more ‘natural’ sustain.
