Robben Ford on poised, fiery form As contemporary power trios go, it doesn’t get much more distinguished than Robben Ford fronting a rhythm section of Vinnie Colaiuta and Jimmy Haslip of Yellowjackets fame. And this is indeed potent stuff: opener The Majestic sees Ford absolutely tearing into the bridge pickup with wiry, intelligent lines tumbling over each other. Secrets dials back the pace, washed by ripples of rotary speaker shimmer and some really searching lead work from Ford. Taut and full of fire, Ford is on super form on this engrossing series of instrumentals. A masterclass in poised jazz-blues guitar.
