What You Need To Know

1 What is this OX? The OX is really two products in one: it’s a top quality reactive load box that lets you drive your valve amp properly so everything is in the ‘sweet spot’, even at bedroom levels. It’s also a digital live room emulator, complete with a choice of cabinets and microphones, together with pro studio quality effects and a hundred amazing factory pre-sets to edit and save. 2 Who are Universal Audio? Universal Audio is an audio equipment manufacturer founded in 1958 by Bill Putnam Sr, based in Scotts Valley, California. Putnam was a contemporary of Les Paul and pioneered many aspects of recording we take for granted today. UA’s history is really the history of modern recording, with key products including the Teletronix LA-2A levelling amplifier, the 1176 Limiting Amplifier and the 610 valve console, used by Sinatra, Nat King Cole, the Beach Boys and Van Halen, to name just a few. Today, UA is just as active in the digital domain, with some of the world’s best plugins in their catalogue. 3 So who’s the OX for? Any Mac-equipped project studio that records electric guitar, and serious guitarists who spend a lot of time in studios and need repeatable and consistently excellent tones. The OX can also be used live; it’s perfect for modern IEM stage environments, although the non-rackmount packaging isn’t best suited for touring and an app that worked on a mobile phone would be indispensable on the road.
