Guitar tech Dave White explains hoW Gem nails DoWn his tones With noel GallaGher’s hiGh FlyinG BirDs…

“The GigRig G2 is amazing. They’re great for anything and you don’t have to spend ages programming. Gem has a clean sound, which is nothing at all – just an amp sound – and then the main sound is the Origin Effects Cali76, the RYRA Klone and the [Carl Martin Lo-gain] Plexitone, which Dan Steinhardt has called ‘The Trinity’. There’s barely anything coming out of the RYRA, but it gives the sound a certain colour and the PlexiTone does all the gain. Those are the main three, and we’ve also got the T-Rex Replica delay, which is a short, slap delay. Then there’s the Strymon El Capistan pedal and an expression pedal, which is doing the wet/dry delay mix. There’s a couple of songs where it really blooms out and then he can just pull it back at any point.

“There’s another couple of G2 presets for a couple of songs – Lock All the Doors and You Know We Can’t Go Back. Then there’s the Fire Custom Shop Carpe Diem overdrive pedal, which has also got a bit of post gain on it from the G2, and the same again with the Way Huge Pork Loin [overdrive pedal]. The post- and pre-gain G2 settings work well for certain songs, like Don’t Look Back In Anger.

“The El Capistan and Replica are in G2 ‘stompbox’ mode, so you can easily tap in and out of presets. There’s also the Keeley 30ms Automatic Double Tracker. They do

All You Need Is Love and he uses a Strat and it sounds exactly like the original – it’s got that Beatles thing down so well!”
