Live At The Roundhouse

-

The Floyd man reveals all Much like the revolving door of a football team presents loyal followers with a different line-up of players under one familiar banner, there are plenty of gigging household name acts that contain very few, and sometimes no, original members. Although the banner may not read ‘Pink Floyd’ in this case, with a name as synonymous with the band as Nick Mason’s – the only member to have played on all of Pink Floyd’s studio albums – legions of knowing fans have recently been queuing up for the spectacle that is Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets.

And what a spectacle it is! If early Pink Floyd is your bag then we highly recommend drawing the curtains, settling down with your favourite tipple (whatever that may be), turning up the volume and immersing yourself in your own private gig for a good couple of hours with Liveatthe Roundhouse. Recorded at Floyd’s late-60s Camden haunt it’s an extremely wellpolished live film with an energetic audio mix that stays on its toes, while weaving around the stage for some close-up action. There’s also a sprinkling of lysergic visual effects provided free (just in case you have to work in the morning).

Focusing on Floyd’s catalogue prior to TheDarkSideOfTheMoon, the setlist comprises Syd Barrett-penned tracks from 1967 – including early singles such as ArnoldLayne and SeeEmilyPlay in addition to Piper classics Interstellar Overdrive, Astronomy Domine and Bike – as well as selections from 1968’s Saucerful Of Secrets, 1969’s More, 1970’s Atom Heart Mother, 1971’s Meddle and 1972’s Obscured by Clouds. [RB] Standout track: Astronomy Domine For fans of: Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett
