2015 OCEAN EIGHT VINEYARD & VERVE MORNINGTON PENINSULA CHARDONNAY

Single vineyard, from the northern end of the Peninsula, picked 1 week earlier than anywhere else in the region. Straw-coloured but fresh and lively. It sizzles through the palate. It tastes of citrus, white peach, wet stones and honeysuckle, oak essentially nowhere to be seen, at least in flavour terms. There’s a subtle, sweet, lactose character to the aftertaste; an attractive parting shot. CM 12.5% alc.

This wine is a great example of what a cool maritime climate (Mornington Peninsula) can add to Australian chardonnay. There is a wonderful fresh acidity with lemon and grapefruit flavours. The freshness stands out in this wine, hence the term verve (lively) chardonnay. The subtle chardonnay will match beautifully to oysters.
