James Halliday.
Wine authority Halliday WIne Companion founder 2015 Dr Loosen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett Riesling
Germany, $44
I buy this wine every year, and never fail to enjoy the new vintage as much as the 10-year-old wine. It's everyone’s favourite in the Halliday household at Christmas.
2015 Provenance Regional Selection Geelong Chardonnay
Geelong, $47
I've been blown away by the current releases of Provenance Wines in Geelong. Scott Ireland has really got it all together with wonderful, cool climate chardonnay and pinot noir. 2016 Cullen Diana Madeline
Margaret River, $129
This is so good it simply has to be part of any serious wine cellar. Its only problem is its supreme balance – you’ll likely drink it all too quickly. 2016 Mount Mary Triolet (Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon/ Muscadelle)
Yarra Valley, $120
You might wonder why I have chosen Triolet, rather than the sublime Pinot Noir, Chardonnay or Quintet.
The answer is that this is the sleeper; a wine to drink now or in 10 years time.
2017 Castle Rock Porongurup Riesling
Great Southern, $23
Made by the immensely talented but modest Rob Diletti, it's a vinous equivalent of Makybe Diva. It’s dry in contrast to the lime juice sweetness of the Loosen, with a minimum 10-year life.
