Mornington musings
Your recent article on pinot noir (June/July) prompted me to write about the opportunity my wife and I had to participate in the Mornington Peninsula Winery Walk recently. We had already booked a short break to the region to see this beautiful area and taste some of its signature wines. When reading the Events section in your April/May issue, I noticed the walk was scheduled during our visit. Knowing how popular such events can be, I was delighted when we were able to secure places. The winery walk involved following an historic railway line for 7km from Red Hill to Merricks, tasting signature wines from seven excellent wineries along the way. At each winery, we were offered two wines to taste with matching canapes, with the owners and/or winemakers on hand to talk us through the wines and answer any questions we may have had. The event was brilliantly organised and thoroughly enjoyable, enabling us to get a first-hand appreciation of the exceptional quality of pinot noir and pinot gris from this impressive wine region. For those who love premium pinot, a visit to the Mornington Peninsula is a must. Alan Kilgore
