2014 Clairault Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Winemaker: Bruce Dukes

-

Cherry blossom, mulberry and cedar aromas are dappled with hints of cigar box, aniseed and blueberries. Finegrained mouth-coating tannins descend into a dark fruit core held in balance by taut acidity with a moreish finish, luscious cherry and simmering French oak.

What defines your cabernet style? Our style is purely defined by our vines and their terroir. The vines were planted on their own roots in 1976 by Margaret River wine-growing pioneers Ian and Ani Lewis. Geologist Ian had selected a magnificent decomposed granite site. What does the addition of another grape

variety bring to this wine? This cuvee is 96 per cent cabernet sauvignon, with a 4 per cent fragrant lift coming from cabernet franc, which was also planted in 1976 next to the cabernet sauvignon site. The sleek, muscular framework of cabernet sauvignon is harmonised with the gentleness and approachability of the franc.
